“宗教的神聖，是所有正面性宗教的殘餘。”
這意味：你在正面性宗教論述看不見的東西，就是残餘。
殘餘的東西，無法被提起，也無法被看見。它卻總是隱藏在正面性的陰影裡頭。
把正面性的東西拿掉，剩下的就是真正的宗教性。
底下這段福音書就是正面性宗教的“殘餘” ～ 殘餘只存在於“邊界”，一種不可能從正面論述去尋找到的“療癒”：
王要對在他右邊的人說：『蒙我父親賜福的人哪，你們來吧！來承受從創世以來就為你們預備的國度。因為我餓了，你們給我吃，渴了，你們給我喝；我流落異鄉，你們接待我到你們家裡；我赤著身子，你們給我穿；我害病，你們照顧我；我坐牢，你們來探望我。』
那時候，那些義人要回答：『主啊，我們甚麼時候看見你餓了，給你吃？渴了，給你喝？甚麼時候看見你流落異鄉而接待你到我們家裡？看見你赤著身子而給你穿？我們甚麼時候看見你害病或坐牢而去探望你呢？』王要回答：『我鄭重地告你們，無論甚麼時候，你們在我弟兄中一個最微不足道的人的身上做了這些事，就是為我作的！』
